As one nurse commented, think of this as a forced retreat...something that lots of people really would like, but never have the chance to take. So that's being taken to heart. Lots of internal time, and not much external stimulation. Meditation.
And speaking of the Neulasta shot. Since this stuff stimulates your bones to create more white cells, the caregivers say that you'll feel an ache in your bones...most likely your big long bones...thigh and upper arm. I woke up and all that ached was my nose. Now I know that I have an Olympic sized schnoz, but who's idea of a joke is this?
So more trips to the doc this week, maybe a platelette (sp?) transfusion, and hopefully I'll be able to hear Jeff Jenkins and company do their Coltrane concert at Dazzle this weekend. He played me the Coltrane changes for "Summertime" this morning. I wept.
Hey, Lee -
ReplyDeleteSo glad you guys set this up. I'll be sure to follow and keep up on what's going on. Without question, you are missed on tour, and we so look forward to seeing you in Denver.
Stay strong, bro. You're GOING to be absolutely fine, and we'll all have a blast working together again at some point in the NEAR future...bet on that.
Best,
Brian
From one nasally endowed brother to another - keep up the good work! It sounds like you are taking to this whole patient thing with the same grace and ease you bring to all that you do. Can't wait to see you in Denver.

Oh crap. I have a big nose, too, and it's growing which is quite unsettling. If it keeps up at this rate, it will be as the size of Rhode Island very soon.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, good lord, sweet boy, this is awful news and I hate it, in your behalf. You're plucky and all and I have no doubt that you'll kick this in the ass, but this is what we like to call the Epic Suck Moment. OK, I made that up, but it seems fitting.
I'll be in touch via other means soon, but for now, I am sharing in the good and loving wishes of the hoardes of Lee Stametz Fan Club members when I say we're sending recuperative vibes your way by the bucketloads. Love, indeed. Kate
You have a big nose? Nover thought of it... I wonder how keen am I when it comes to observing others. Get well soon so you can resume torturing the world with your piano. Lots of love! General Antonito.
ReplyDeleteLee, I am thinking about you and Carol today and trying to send you good thoughts and vibes.
ReplyDeleteIt could be a good thing to lounge on the fainting couch and have a lovely lady peel your fruit and feed you.
I hope you are able to eat and sleep well, listen to music and maybe read?
Thanks for taking the time to post.diana
Buenos dias!! I am thinking about you this morning and happy it is summer there. Sunshine is good for the soul. I think about growing up in your neighborhood and walking Linda to school at Grove elementary. I remember being in the parking lot of the House of Pies on Colorado Blvd when I heard Robert Kennedy was shot. I remember eating fish and chips at the joint on Adams Street and Linda working at the Bluebird Theatre. Hmm, just realized my memories of Linda are going to school and working and mine are of eating!!
ReplyDeleteThis morning Angel was working with his machete at 6am, cutting back the jungle with a steady swish, swish and then stopping to sharpen the blade. When John left to take the Toyota to the mechanic (fairly regular trip!!) I fixed Angel a waffle with strawberry jam and a cup of coffee. He sat on the patio with me and we talked. Learning our places is strange, he is very subserviant, but curious and friendly. I don't think sharing coffee is normal for him. It is a great way for me to practice Spanish. He went back to work and a few minutes later he stood on the porch and whistled softly for me. He had a little boquete of flowers for me and said, "Senora, le gusta flores?" and smiled shyly. I exclaimed over them and he told me how to put them in a glass with water and place them on the table!! oh my
Tengo buen dia, senor :)
